Sophie began dancing in 2001 as a student of Yael Moav in Jerusalem. Following her relocation to the San Francisco Bay Area Sophie joined the Hala Dance Company. As a member of the troupe she performed Egyptian folkloric repertoire throughout the Bay Area, including the prestigious San Francisco Ethnic Dance Festival in June 2004.
Sophie continued to train locally, studying dance with Alcina. As a committed student of Raqs Sharqi, she attended numerous master classes with prominent international instructors such as Leila Haddad, Atef Farag, Magda Ibrahim, Shareen El Safy and others.
Recently Sophie returned to Israel to further pursue studies of Oriental music and dance. Currently she studies percussion with Kobi Hagoel at the Center for Middle Eastern Classical Music in Jerusalem and dance with Sagit Elmaliach and Tamar Bar-Gil.
